Psalm 51:10-12

I would love to hear from YOU!

Tell me what you think about this passage?

What strikes you as unusual, significant, remarkable, etc.?

What do you think our church family needs to hear from this passage?

Feel free to say what's on your heart/mind.

Psalm 51:10-12
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

1st I'm reminded of the Hymm that this psalm has been turned into. Second it strikes me as a prayer, like I am asking God to forgive me for something I've done.

I think we all need to check what condition are hearts in. How healthy are they in the eyes of God? If He were our Cardiologist would He require a transplant? I think most of us would lilke to think that our hearts are pure but when you get down to it maybe aren't as pure as we thought.

key words or points that jump out at me are:
renewel
plea to not cast away
sustainment
purity

i think we don't often enough take the time or want to admit we need a tune up. who wants to admit they are not performing. kind of like a performance eval at work. no one wants the boss to check anything negative and if so, you fail to accept it. sometimes we need to face up that we are not what god wants.

A clean heart makes me think of a clean slate to start over. A steadfast spirit equals the strength to continue on the narrow path. Vs 11, do not cast me away is a cry for help so we can continue to follow the Lord's way.

Wow! Great comments so far.

How/where does all this fit in a PROCESS of repentance?

I think part of the process of repentance is understanding that you have failed God. Then you have to come to the realization that He will forgive you and renew your spirit.

I think this verse demonstrates that process. Asking for renewal, seeking a relationship, recieving restoration.

Well said, and for us (Christians) how does the Cross of Jesus demonstrate all of this?

The Cross tells me the love He has for us. Would we listen to our father here on earth and die as Jesus did on the cross? I think not. The pain and suffering he did for us overwhelms me. I know that everyday I try to do what is right but I still disappoint him but he still loves me and will always forgive me.
